Class Descriptions
We affectionately group most of our classes into three categories: Dynamic Yogi, Balanced Yogi, and Mellow Yogi. (Below you can also find more classic names.) We feel that together these classes cultivate a well-balanced practice and lifestyle. While we do hope that eventually you will explore them all, we also understand that many people begin by looking for something specific, or simply have more particular needs.

DYNAMIC YOGI
In these classes you will connect the flow of your breath to the flow of your body as we move through a dynamic, active sequence of poses designed to cultivate passion, strength, stamina and power. You will slow down enough to learn subtle alignment details that will enrich your physical transformation, though you will likely build some internal heat while challenging your body and mind. BALANCED YOGI
This class combines passive and active yoga poses with breathing exercises and meditation to create a very deep, integrated and balanced experience of effort and surrender. Primarily, we will hold deep stretching postures for long periods of time in order to manipulate the body’s deep connective tissues and settle and quiet the mind. (Eventually!) A few strength building postures will be integrated in order to provide a balanced experience. Classic Description: Yin Yang

MELLOW YOGI
This class is designed to leave yogis nourished and well rested. It’s your chance to let go, relax and quietly savor the simple sweetness of life. All postures are passive and relaxing, each deeply supported by blankets, blocks and other props. We will do only a few postures in this class, resting in each for a long period of time. The music is soft, the teacher is quiet, the result is blissful! Classic Description: Restorative

YOGA NIDRA
This class is a guided meditation that effects positive changes in your life through the use of deep seated intention. If practiced regularly, you will experience immense stress relief, improved sleep and a deeper sense of calm and clarity. YOUTH YOGA
Yoga is a gift…for children & teens, and their parents! It is an uplifting, noncompetitive, mind-expanding, and fun way for youth to build strength, spirit, confidence and self-esteem. Our Kids & Teen/Tween Yoga Class Series foster creativity, cooperation, and confidence in a safe environment where all children and young adults are perfect just the way they are. Children and teens alike have different needs than adults, respond to different stimuli, and learn in different ways. That’s why Asha Yoga offers classes an age appropriate experience of yoga postures, breathing practices and meditation. Our goal is to provide a yoga class for each age group in a fun, loving and structured environment, building a foundation in yogic practices that will serve them for a lifetime. Begin with other beginner’s and get a little extra support in our monthly Yoga 101 class.We also highly recommend our Yoga Foundations Series to everyone, and especially beginner’s to yoga. The time you take in this series will allow you to benefit more from every class you take and every yoga pose you do in the future.

Class Recommendations
Here are some guidelines to help you chose your first few classes:
Unless clearly noted, our classes are ALL-Level. In the All-level classes, options and modifications are offered to accommodate beginner-intermediate level students. For the most part, you will chose your class based on the style, rather than the level.
Start with a Yoga 101 class if any of these statement are true for you. You:
- Are new to yoga and want to start with other beginner’s.
- Feel a little nervous about joining an all-level class.
- Would like to know a little more detail and history about yoga.
- Would like to take extra time and get more explanation about how to get into the postures.
Try a Dynamic Yogi Class if you:
- Are physically healthy and regularly participate in some form of exercise- (or are ready to start.)
- Want to be physically challenged and potentially get a bit sweaty. Are open to more “up-beat” and creative movement.
Try a Balanced Yogi Class if you:
- Want an experience that raises your potential without raising your heart rate for extended periods of time.
- Want to focus on flexibility and mobility and move quite slowly through postures.
- Are especially interested in preparing your body and mind for meditation.
Try a Mellow Yogi Class if you:
- Want a relaxing, restful experience. Want to focus on supporting and nurturing your body very gently.
- Are always going a million miles an hour and need to be encouraged, invited, or shown how to slow down.
