History & Mission

Cori Martinez, the owner of Asha Yoga, moved to Sacramento with her husband and daughter after 7 years in Hawaii. When people ask “WHY Sacramento from Hawaii?” she commonly replies that she LOVES Sacramento and the community here. The thing she missed most was owning a yoga studio, as she did in Hawaii, and being fully integrated into a yoga community of like-minded individuals. So two years after being in Sac, she opened Asha Yoga- Midtown with the support of a very welcoming and grateful community.
The Name “Asha” was inspired mostly by its Arabic translation: Alive and Well. Grown from the vision of a yoga center that provides the community with a balanced variety of yoga classes, inspirational events, healthy living programs and trainings to deepen one’s study of yoga and experience of inner peace, Asha Yoga opened its doors in March of 2009.
The intention to create a space where people feel welcomed, supported and able to experience the true benefits of yoga — a place where people can cultivate a deep sense of feeling and BEING alive and well- has since brought together a beautiful community of knowledgeable, passionate and accessible teachers and staff who are interested in sharing yoga as a physical, mental and spiritual practice.
Cori believes, and has experienced first-hand, that yoga teaches us to discover peace and happiness inside of ourselves. “Through yoga, I have experienced the power of loving what is, and it’s my wish, and mission, to share what may bring this freedom to others.” -Cori Martinez
We truly look forward to meeting you and sharing the gifts of yoga!
