You probably already know that yoga is about more than exercise.
Primarily, yoga is a system designed to reveal to us an inner state of deep and lasting happiness.
“For many years yoga postures have kept my physical body healthy, breathing excercises have soothed me emotionally, meditation has opened my mind to insight, wisdom and clarity. Each of these practices are pieces of a complete yoga system described by a man named Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras called the eight limbed Path. (A path intended to lead to pure joy.)
Most people are less familiar with the first two steps of the Eight Limed Path: Yama and Niyama. These steps are about the daily choices we make… about our attitude and behaviors in relationship with our self and society that either open us to or close us off from an inner state of lasting happiness or pure joy.” -Cori Martinez
The Living Yoga Program is an opportunity to:
- Increase your awareness and understanding of the attitudes and behaviors that result in your happiness as well as your suffering. This understanding will help you to more easily make the choices that lead you to happiness.
- Be supported by community in developing a consistent practice.
- Increase physical health through yoga postures and diet
- Support emotional balance and even physical healing through consistent breathing exercises.
- Learn more about meditation and begin a regular meditation practice.

Yes, it’s a big commitment.
Many things of value in life require that you give fully of yourself and make sacrifices. This doesn’t mean your ultimate goal will be to attend class at the yoga studio every day for the rest of your life (Though maybe it is!). YOU will choose your own ultimate goal, but the asana commitment for the challenge IS 3-6 days days of yoga at Asha for the 4 weeks. After completing the challenge, the quantity of time dedicated to the physical practice each day may vary.
Why 4 Weeks?
Because many studies (and my own experiences) have shown that it takes this long to make or break a habit. During these 4 weeks, our goal is to make several new habits that will lead us to discover our strongest, healthiest, happiest selves.
The Reward:
I’m sure you get the idea by now… a life filled with insight, curiosity, happiness and peace.☺
